Exciting start to Raiwaqa U18 basketball tournament

EIGHTEEN teams have confirmed participation in the Raiwaqa under-18 basketball tournament for both boys and girls which will be played in the next five weeks.

This is the first time an under-18 league competition has been organised outside school and organisers are thrilled with the response. The first round of games was played yesterday at the Ed's Court in Raiwaqa.

Games official Peniasi Kainamoli said they saw a lot of good skills and talents on show. "I think the holiday clinics that Laisiasa Puamau started on Monday had a really good effect on the players," he said. "We saw that from the last time we had a clinic to the games this time, the players have really improved."

He says next week there will be no weekly competition because of the Fiji Games. "We will resume our competition on the week after the Fiji Games and we expect to see fitter players and good results."

The Association was pleased with enthusiastic level shown by the participants and the parental support from participating parents.
