Big boost for Basketball Fiji

The Commissioner of Police in his capacity as the President of Basketball Fiji met with the newly appointed FIBA Oceania Zone Development Manager (ZDM) Ms Annie La Fleur this morning at the Fiji Police Headquarters. Ms La Fleur is in Fiji for a 6 days development visit with Basketball Fiji. The two along with Development officer Laisiasa Puamau spent the morning discussing the way forward for the sport in Fiji.

According to Basketball Fiji, Ms La Fleur is in the country observing, assisting and providing her guidance on basketball programs that are currently running, in particular the Secondary Schools and National Men's and Women's Programs.

The Olympic silver medalist who is the FIBA Oceania Zone development manager will help Basketball Fiji evaluate its current development program.

Brigadier General Ioane Naivalurua says having the experience and knowledge of someone of Ms La Fleur caliber ho has played at the highest level help in the support and growth of the sport in Fiji is a major boost.

Ms La Fleur won silver for Australia at the 2000 Olympics and a bronze medal at the Women's World Championships in Berlin, Germany. She's an experienced coach, having coached the Sydney Comets ABA Women last year.

Annie La Fleur comes from a sound basketball background which includes representing the Australian Opals for 8 years, where she played in 2 world championship and won a silver medal in the 2000 Olympic Games.
