Champions bow out

NATABUA High School knocked Marist Brothers High School out of the Tuckers Ice Cream National Secondary Schools Basketball Championship during their under-19 quarter-final clash in Suva yesterday. Last year, MBHS edged Natabua by a single basket, however, yesterday Natabua turned the scores on the defending champions 26-24.

Natabua now plays neighbours Lautoka Central College in the semi-final. Latter Day Saints battle Laucala Bay Secondary School in the second semi-final.

In the U19 girls competition, Yat Sen Secondary School and Adi Cakobau School won their respective pools. YSS, led by Fiji U19 rep Britney Kamsoo, plays Jai Narayan College in the semi-final while ACS, skippered by Kelera Koyamainavure, takes on Saint Joseph's Secondary School in the other top four clash.

MBHS is on track to defend its U17 boys title, heading into the semi-final with a clean record.

The U15 MBHS side plays Suva Grammar School in the semi-final.

Meanwhile, Queen Victoria School has created history by reaching the semi-final stage for the first time. The boys from Matavatucou will play LDS.

The finals will start at 1.30pm at the Vodafone Arena.

8.30 U15 QVS - LDS, MBHS - SGS (Boys), 9.30 U17 SJSS-LDS, SGS - ISS (Girls), 10.30 U17 LDS - Natabua, MBHS I - GHS (Boys), 11.30 U19 ACS - SJSS, JNC - YSS (Girls), 12.30pm U19 Lautoka Central - Natabua, LDS - Laucala Bay (Boys)
