The top teams in the Raiwaqa Super League continued their dominance at Ed’s Court last Saturday.
Defending men’s champions Boston Whites, Raiwaqa Masters, Lady Birds, Golden Bati and Dynamic Reds proved their worth after securing good wins.
Golden Bati kicked off the women’s division, going head to head with Iconic Reds and beating the Reds 46-30. Top men’s team Raiwaqa Masters took to the court next against Philipinas, with the Masters showing the debutants how it’s done, scoring 22 more points over them to win with a final score of 49-28.
Dynamic Reds and Westly Stripes met in the third match, the Reds dominating with a 37 point lead over the Stripes to win 63-20 while Lady Birds met Mystics and took a 44 point lead in the end to claim a 58-14 win.
Meanwhile, men’s champions Boston Whites went up against Westly Stripes and tallied 22 points more to win 37-15. Boston Reds went up against debutants USP next and scored 20 points more and win 37-17.
Warriors and MacPacers played a thriller with a final scoreboard of 27-19 to the Warriors.
Defending women’s champions Sparks annihilated opponents Chosen in the final match of the division with a whopping 83-12 victory and Boston Whites Under-19 development squad Mighty Mights proved too good winning 84-7.
Tournament organiser, Peniasi Kainamoli praised all the teams for a stellar weekend of basketball and anticipated competition to intensify in the coming weeks.
“It was a really exciting day in basketball and all the teams turned up so very pleasing. The competition will definitely pick up as we move towards Easter Games with only five berths allocated to Raiwaqa. So the competition is definitely on. “Preparations for Easter Games are going well and they’ll be keeping in mind that narrow window for participation. Also, with the new expanded calendar to cater for the growing franchise, the higher performing teams will be playing against each other so expect closer scores and more evened out games in the coming weeks.”
