DEFENDING Secondary Schools girls under-19 champion Adi Cakobau School was taken to the wire in its opening game of the Tuckers Ice Cream Basketball Championship.

The Sawani girls were lucky to escape with a win against a determined Suva Grammar School 25-24 at the Vodafone Arena yesterday. Led by Fiji U19 rep, Kelera Koyamainavure, ACS looked rattled and often looked casual during the match. However, Koyamainavure's experience was the saviour for the team as they managed to hold on to a 20-all draw at fulltime before being given an extra five minutes to settle the score.

Today, ACS plays Jasper Williams High School of Lautoka.

In the boys division, Yat Sen Secondary School made a winning start to its U19 campaign with a comfortable 33-15 win over Xavier College.

In other U19 games, Ba Provincial beat Queen Victoria School 20-9 while Suva Grammar lost to Jay Narayan College 21-47.
