Australia, NZ and Guam dominate basketball championships in Fiji

The teams from New Zealand, Australia and Guam have dominated in both the women's and men's events on the opening day of the under-19 Oceania basketball championships in Fiji.

 

And there were wins for the hosts over Samoa in the women's event, but defeat against American Samoa in the men's tournament.

David Crocker, the Secretary-General of FIBA Oceania, FIBA being the International Basketball Federation, said it's clear as with so many sports, the Pacific teams are suffering from a lack of regular competition.
