AMERICAN MONEY GROUPS ASIA PACIFIC TOURNAMENT

The Fiji Womens team recently returned from the American Money Group sponsored ASIA PACIFIC TOURNAMENT at the BYU Hawaii campus in Laie, Oahu, Hawaii.

The team played two games in the tournament, the first against Huazhong University from China which they lost 86 to 70 and the second game against BYU Hawaii which they also lost 74 to 68.

The team comprised the bulk of the Pacific Games gold medal winning squad, minus Valerie Nainima and Mikaelar Whippy who too were busy with LIU's pre-season conference games to make the trip. However much experience was gained by those who made the trip, especially the younger players.

The tournament is a yearly event just before the Pacific West Conference, that BYUH plays in, kicks off their season. The games were played in the excellent and modern Canon Athletic Centre, with excellent facilities and good organization.

This is the third time that a Fijian team has been invited to the tournament and we look forward to further invitiations in the future. It is notable to mention that small forward Sera Colata has been offered a scholarship to play at BYUH next year, as a result of her fine performance in this tournament.
