Nadi Basketball Association begins Revival

Last Thursday the Nadi Basketball Association organized a game between International Secondary School Nadi against the Korean Students. The Korean Students won the match convincingly with a 35-16 score line. Quite surprisely the Nadi officials and development officers were suprised by the level of basketball displayed, since more than 50% of the players were playing their first official match. Kids have been asking whether this will continue and are interested to play more basketball. The interest shown by the kids is encouraging and I guess it’s only a matter of time before the Nadi Basketball Association swing the teachers support their way.

On Saturday the 8th August the association will be hosting a Nadi Secondary Schools Basketball Festival from 9.30am - 1.00pm at the CAAFI Grounds basketball court in Namaka.

The Program for the day will includes a short coaching clinic to introduce students and teachers to the basics of the sport. Booklets on coaching drills will be giving to teachers which they will be able to use in their own schools during their PE classes. The clinic will be followed by scrimmages where each and every student will be pooled into a team to ensure that everyone gets an opportunity to play and have a feel of the game.

All are welcome to attend. Things to bring are proper basketball attire, shoes and water bottles. For more information contact Mr. Jone Ravitu - President of Nadi Basketball Association on 9233299 / nadibasketball@ymail.com
