Kadrati eyes b'ball stardom

JERRY Kadrati wants to be the first disabled player to play professional basketball in the future.

The 14-year-old student of Hilton Special School was another rising star at the National Special School Basketball Championship in Suva yesterday.

He displayed an entertaining which brought delight and amazement to his supporters at the National Gymnasium.

Kadrati has hearing problems but that has not diminished his dreams of donning the national colours one day.

Through the help of an interpreter, Kadrati said he wanted to be a professional basketball player one day.

"I want to be the first disable player to play professional basketball in the future. It's my goal and I'll work towards it."

Unlike his other two brothers and sisters, Kadrati is the only disabled member of the family.

The Tailevu lad plays for Boston basketball club in the Raiwaqa Juniors basketball competition every Wednesdays.

He said he had no difficulties playing alongside other players during club competition.

"I use sign language to communicate with my other Boston players. There are no difficulties and I enjoy every bit of it."

"I believe with the support of my family, I can achieve my dreams one day," Kadrati added.
