Knights, Saints set pace in Suva Laucala league

The Suva-Laucala Basketball Association League competition today will be tough and outright demanding on the players, says their media relations officer, Jojiana Gavidi. Since the opening of the basketball season, players have been pushing themselves to higher levels of fitness and court skills. In the women's division, Suva Knights are the dominating team. The games will be featuring teams like Masters, Southern Force and Shaq Attaq. However, newly-formed Golden Bati did not compete in last week's League challenges hence, Masters won by default. "They still haven't confirmed whether or not they are in the league but we assume they are in the league and we are waiting for them to confirm," Gavidi said. "There will be gruelling competition and it will be a challenge for us to play against the dominating teams," said Gavidi, who plays for the Southern Force. While in the men's division, dominant 2010 Ram Sami national champions Saints will fight to keep their top spot. Guided by the national team coach Paul Whippy, it is without doubt that these boys are undergoing rigorous training sessions. The team is led by national men's captain Leonard Whippy. And the Baseliners, another new team coached by Semesa Seruvatu, joins the competition tomorrow. Teams that will be participating are Baseliners, last year's Easter Champs Shaq Attaq, Saints, Air Iguana, Knights, Pitbulls and Idaman. "We are looking forward to good competitive games," said Gavidi.
