Shaq Attaq on track to defend b'ball title

DEFENDING Suva/Laucala Basketball League champs Shaq Attaq is on track to defend its title in the final against Saints next weekend. This was after the Laisiasa Puamau-led side edged Baseliners 32-27 in the semi-final yesterday to put their title defence on track. Saints dethroned Iguana 64-30 in the second semi-final to book their spot in the final. Laced with national reps like Jese Sikivou, Waymond Whippy, Jeffery Sikivou and Leonard Whippy, Saints will be tough to handle next week. They beat Shaq Attaq 43-30 during the round-robin meet. Saints rep Leaonard Whippy said it would be a good showdown against the defending champs. "I think we played well in the semi-final. We piled up all our points in the early stages of the game which puts us in a comfortable position as the game progresses," Whippy said. "The finals will be a good game and we're be out to make something out in that game." In the women's competition, Shaq Attaq stormed its way through to the final with a 27-23 victory over Master while defending champion Knights roared louder 57-12 against Southern Force. Whippy said the semi-final saw an uphill battle between the eight teams as they chased a spot in the final. "It was a good game and I believe the finals will be more exciting." Meanwhile, Idaman qualified to the Eastern Championship as the fifth team from Suva. Idaman beat Pitbulls 54-23 in the last game at International Secondary School gymnasium.
