Warriors come out on top

WARRIORS beat Boston 45-35 on Wednesday night to clinch the Tu Vili Cup in the opening challenge of the Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association league at Ed's Court. Coach/player Frank Saketa said they were surprised with the win as the side only had six players for the game. Saketa said number of players was limited because of commitments. "We didn't really expect to win," he said. "We were surprised with the outcome." He said the side played without any pressure or major expectations. "The game plan was to have fun. It was not really about competing but seeing what we could do and we're happy with the outcome." Saketa said Boston was a tough side. "Playing them is always tough," he said. "They have a good blend of seasoned players, also national and U-20 reps. "They're always competitive and give you a good run for your money." Warriors will defend the cup against Mighty Mights tomorrow. "We're hoping for a win," Saketa said. "Again there's no pressure on us. We'll just try and replicate last night's (Wednesday) game, enjoy and play to our strength."

In the women's challenge match, Wed C defeated Chosen 35-29.
