Basketball Fiji has selected a 10-member Fiji Under-20s team and four in the non-travelling reserves to feature in the Oceania Youth Tournament in New Caledonia. The tournament will be held from October 30 to November 7. Lia Seru and Vika Fifita, who were part of the 2008 squad that went to Guam, have been recalled into the team. The other notable names in the squad include Mili Koyamainavure, who was named the Under-19 girls Most Valuable Player in the Twisties National Secondary Schools Championship that ended on Wednesday at the Vodafone Arena. Also named in the squad is national netball trialist Leba Korovou. She was the youngest player chosen by Unaisi Rokoura into the national squad who was to prepare for the Pacific Series in June 2009. Team manager Lydia Sokosoko said: “The players were selected based on their impressive performances at the national schools championship. “Only two players were part of the last U-20 team. The others are new but they have experience in the sport having played competitive basketball at club level.” In the last Oceania Tournament in 2008, Fiji finished with a bronze medal. “We would like to improve on that this year,” Sokosoko said. They rate New Zealand ahead of Tahiti and American Samoa as they toughest opponent because of their height advantage.

Fiji U-20s squad: Mili Koyamainavure, Lia Seru, Maraia Naivaluvou Tora, Vika Fifita, Ada Dansey, Amalaina Raluvenitoga, Jaculine Ah Jack, Leba Korovou, Sisilia Bui Tora, Maria Dabea

Reserves: Brianna Kansoo, Georgina Baleinacagi, Josivini Fifita, Savaira Sorovaki
