National players stand out

FIJI basketball reps playing in the Suva Secondary Schools Basketball competition have been making a huge difference to the weekly league event.

Champion boy's team, Marist Brothers High School (MBHS) under-19 side with the services of national U20 rep Mataika Koyamainavure, John Kunau and Isireli Vuetibau looks on track after round four of the competition.

MBHS are undefeated from four matches so far and looks likely to defend their title.

In the girl's division, defending champions Adi Cakobau U19 led by national rep Milikere Koyamainavure is the team to beat.

ACS is also undefeated, recording wins against traditional basketball giants Yat Sen and Latter Day Saints College in earlier rounds.

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said the competition was providing schools with a good build-up towards the Twisties sponsored Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball Championships.

The annual national secondary school basketball tournament will be held on the term two school break.

"Eleven schools representing 36 teams have been participating in the Suva Secondary Schools Home and Away weekly league competitions," Puamau said.

"The competition is going on well at the moment," Puamau said.

Competition will continue this week.
