Koroi on fire

ULAIASI Koroi scored an impressive 30 points to help his Marist Brothers' High School under-19 side walloped Ba Provincial High School 57-12 during the Fiji Secondary Basketball Championship at the Vodafone Arena yesterday.

MBHS, the U19 reigning champions, started their campaign on a high note, sending a stern warning to other teams as they look to win the title for the third consecutive year.

It was a walk through for MBHS, however, Koroi insisted the real test awaited them as they progressed through the Tuckers Ice-Cream sponsored tournament. The Wailevu Kadavu lad said he needed to lift his performance.

"I have been training hard before this tournament so scoring those 30 baskets was no surprise for me," said Koroi.

"It was team effort that helped me score all those points but I am looking forward to my next game as I want to continue to improve my performance."

The Form Seven student, captained the victorious MBHS U17 team last year. Koroi is also part of the Fiji U19 training squad.

"Playing for the Warriors and training in the Fiji U19 team has helped me a lot. I know I still need to lift my game to another level because I want to help our team retain the title for the third year in a row."

Despite the win over BPHS, Koroi said they needed to tighten their defence in the next game.

Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said Koroi's 30 baskets spoke volumes of his individual skills.

No support

DESPITE the fact that it is school break, secondary schools basketball teams failed to attract the support of their fans. At the Vodafone Arena only a handful of supporters were present at the arena. Hopefully more supporters will turn up as the event progresses.

Raiwaqa fans

THE Fiji Secondary School Basketball Championship attracted the attention of the people living in Raiwaqa. Basketball Fiji officials said a lot of spectators were present to witness their most loved sport played at their favourite court once again, but this time it was at secondary school level.
