Warm-up for basketball

THE Fiji basketball men's side will start playing warm-up matches from next month in preparation for the Oceania Championships in November.

The national men's and women's side have been invited to participate in the Oceania meet to be held in Wellington, New Zealand. Fiji men's team manager Jim Tora said players were training at least four times in a week to stay in contention for a place in the final team.

"We have opted for a young squad for this Oceania Championships," Tora said. "Our main focus is the Pacific Games in 2015 in Papua New Guinea. "We are building up for that event."

Tora said they would consider only one overseas-based player to strengthen the men's side.

Australia-based Marcus Whippy is one of the experienced players in the national team for the Oceania Championships which will be held from November 27 to December 5.
