Schools basketball attracts over 700 players

The Tuckers Schools Basketball Championship will have close to 720 students participating in the four-day tournament next month. This year there has been increase in the number of teams from 65 to 70 and organiser Laisiasa Puamau says it will be a good build up for the Oceania Championships. “Fiji will be hosting the FIBA Oceania Under 19 qualifiers which will be held from 1-8 of December at Vodafone Arena in Suva. Ten countries will be competing in the international event and the secondary school program will be an opportunity for the federation to use it as a dress rehearsal.” Schools such as Tilak High School, Xavier College and Jasper Williams Secondary school have expressed their interest to be part of the tournament. The championship will be held from 25-28 August at Vodafone Arena in Suva. Meanwhile, the championship received a major boost with the $25 000 sponsorship from the Goodman Fielder today.
