Renovated court to host U19 tournament

THE renovated venue of 2014 FIBA USP under-19 Oceania Basketball Championship is expected to add to the profile of the week-long tournament which starts today.

The Vodafone Arena in Suva underwent an upgrade to bring it to international standards for the World U19 Championship qualifiers.

This was possible through the memorandum of understanding between host Basketball Fiji and facility owner Fiji Sports Council.

The council through the support of the Prime Minister's Office and the Fiji National Sports Commission committed $159,000 towards revamping the arena.

The BLK Fiji teams held few scrimmaging session on the newly renovated courts. Commission chairman Peter Mazey said the renovation was timely as the Fiji Pearls were also hosting the Silver Ferns in January, 2015.
