Schools bounce in

PRIMARY Schools around Suva continue to show interest in playing at the Raiwai Youth Basketball Development competition even though competition has entered its second month.

Raiwai Basketball Development co-ordinator Kelevi Serukalou said new teams continue to join their weekly competition.

Serukakalou said they are not only encouraged by the number of new teams but also schools who don't usually play basketball.

"This week we will have Veiuto joining us. "The increase in the number of teams shows there is a lot of interest in our development work," Serukalou said.

"Schools like John Wesley, who we don't normally associate with the sport of basketball, are now one of the top teams in this competition.

"They take part in the weekly Fiji Basketball-organised Primary schools competition every Friday and than they come to play in our competition on Saturdays.

"That shows how serious they are about the game.".

Seruakalou said their weekly competition was very popular amongst schools around the Suva area.

"The Raiwai Hall is always full every Saturday as kids and their parents gather to participate and cheer their teams."

Serukalou said the RYBDA has also organised training for kids every afternoon at the Raiwai Hall.

"We train kids every afternoon from Monday to Thursday."

Serukalou said they're thankful to Fiji Basketball for helping with equipments, the Raiwai Youth Council for allowing the use of the Hall, The Salvation Army for providing the chairs and the Raiwai Police Post for providing security.
