Timely assistance for host Raiwaqa

The Raiwaqa Basketball Association received a timely boost yesterday when they were handed balls, trophies and whistles donated by former Raiwaqa basketball players who are now residing in the United States.

Handing over the prizes to the organisers of the Post Shop Raiwaqa Easter Basketball Championship committee was former national rep Simi Rasova. Rasova said the RBA had been given the right to host the Easter Championship and the donation from former reps had boosted the morale of the players and also the organisers.
He said the donation was the start of many good things to come as the association would soon receive computers and other office equipments from abroad.The donation from the former Raiwaqa players in the US has given a new lease of life to the organisers of the Easter games, Rasova said.
It has also boosted them in holding a much bigger tournament next season.

The former players that donated the prizes promise us that they will send some laptops, computers and other office stationaries in the next two months. It's also a huge boost for our players especially the young ones knowing that they can also follow the footsteps of this former players in the US.

These prizes are to be used in the Easter Championship that starts tomorrow (today) in Suva. Rasova said such donation has painted a good image of the future of the sport in Raiwaqa and players are requested to join the side if they wanted to make a name for themselves in the future.
Former Raiwaqa players that contributed for the prizes are Jone Ropate, Ruth McKay, Selai Basalusalu, Ema Tuitubou, Hudson Mapa, Salome Mapa, Selaini Mataiwalu, Tony Wong, Siteri Waqanitoga, King Saul, Tulau Raralevu, Ilisoni Vuidreketi, Teresia Owens, Apete and Titilia Rasova, John McGoon, Joe and Bulou Toroca.
