Basketball Volunteers at their Best
Congratulations to all SPG Basketball volunteers for the hard work that has been done so far.
Before the tournament there was a lot of frustration regarding the uniforms, reschedule of training, postponed meetings, equipment and of cause the meals vouchers. When the Games began all this was left behind and all joined hands to let the sprit of the games begin to show the PACIFIC AT ITS BEST.
Bench Officials: Have been doing their duty to the best of their ability to support each game as it progresses and at times officiate two or three games a day for the LOVE of Basketball. From your team leader a big vinaka vakalevu to you all for your time and I am proud to be part of the team and could say that we're keeping the PACIFIC AT ITS BEST .
Statistics Officials: A dedicated group of 22 individuals have the task of recording statistics during the course of every game and ensuring their accuracy. They work in teams of 3 with the 3 tasks of calling, inputting and spotting, For each game there are 7 people working including a supervisor to verify the calls made the umpire has made with the benck officials. The Cybersports computer software is used to electronically record all the action on court including the spot from which each shot is taken. Numerous reports can be generated to help coaches analyse their teams and individual players performance. Printouts are made of all players statistics and provided to the team coaches and announcers at half-tine. At the end of the game the stats are verified with the score bench before being submitted to the results centre.
Administration and Result Officers: Before the SPG 2003 the team were looking forward to their work. Without proper trainig we managed to overcome all difficulties with the help of FIBA Oceania staff. We are getting the work done of inputting results, photocoping of results to be ditributed to teams and media and get to know the fantastic work that the compter can produce. Results and cover story were also loaded to various e-mails to participating Island nations. A feed back from teams shows us that they are in support of the work done. Congratulation to the hard working staff and we look forward in providing the BASKETBALL FIJI AT ITS BEST.
The Announcers Team consists of 3 English Announcers and 2 French Announcers - All volunteers! In the first 2 matches on the 1st day of basketball competition (saturday 5th July) we were all stressed out with the pressure of trying to announce as much as possible to inform the public - from taking the scores of the game to announcing the top scorers at every quarter - often arguing with each other.
As the days passed, we have managed to face our challenges and our love for the game has helped us continue our duties with plessure. We are all honoured to be part of the Basketball Organising team for this 12th Sout Pacific Games and will always treasure the memories of all the friends we've made.
Ball boys and floor wipers: These boys and girls are hard at work during the game. They attend all the games and are ready to wipe out the wet floor for the safety of the players. At the begining of the tournament they were a bit shy in performing their duties but as the game progressed they over came this obstacle and for the love of the game they continue without hinderance.Well done boys and good luck to you and your Team Leader. Keep providing the service to the best of your ability, to fullfil our promise To Keep the Basketball At Its Best.
