Team numbers continuing to build
Teams from far north Queensland, the Gold Coast, northern NSW and Sydney have entered the 3x3 Youth Championships, with nominations closing in another week. Championship organiser Judy Smith is confident that the target of 72 teams will be reached by close of nominations. "Schools in NSW have just returned from Easter holidays, so I expect teachers and students will get together through the week and finalise their nominations".
The Australian school and association teams will join Fiji, Cook Islands, Vanuatu, Samoa, Guam, New Zealand, Australia, New Caledonia, Tonga and Indigenous Australia in the FIBA Oceania 3x3 Youth Championships.
The winning team from the Pacific Island teams will return to Sydney in January 2013 to represent Oceania at the Australian Youth Olympic Festival.
Continuing the youth focus for the event, referees from Queensland, NSW and Canberra will be aged 17 - 21 years of age.
