Successful coaches share their expertise...

Michael Haynes, Oceania President of the World Association of Basketball Coaches (WABC) in collaboration with World President, Patrick Hunt is embracing the FIBA 3X3 discipline with the conduct of the WABC's first 3x3 Coaching Clinic at FIBA Oceania's Youth 3X3 Championships in Coffs Harbour.FIBA 3X3 is a version of the game where the role of the coach is significantly different to the traditional form of the game and the half court, fast paced action calls for different game strategies.  Because of the newness of the discipline and the emerging pathways towards World Championships and Olympic Games, it is anticipated that there will be great interest in the clinics.

The clinics will be held Tuesday morning June 26th, 8.00am to 10.00 am at Sportz Central in Coffs Harbour, where all competition games will be played.

Two very qualified clinicians will deliver presentations which are being video to create a souvenir education resource.

Kristy Flores has already chalked up two international tournaments as a FIBA 3X3 coach, guiding the Australian girls team taking part in the iaugural Youth Olympic Games in Singapore in 2010 and last year taking the Australia girls to the FIBA Youth World 3X3 Championships in Remini, Italy.  Flores is the assistant coach to the AIS Women's basketball program in Canberra, Australia and has studied the emergence of the FIBA 3X3 discipline to extract as many lessons and teaching points as possible.

Anthony Corban is a World Championship winning coach in FIBA 3X3, leading the New Zealand boys to the gold medal in last year's championships in Remini.

The WABC 3X3 clinic will be free of charge for coaches.  Participating coaches will have the option of purchasing a clinic support pack which consists of a coaching whiteboard, coaching notepad and double coloured pen at the clinic.

FIBA Oceania wil provide each of the coaches who attend the clinic and register their contact details with a copy of the souvenir DVD when it is created after the clinic.

Secretary General of FIBA Oceania, Steve Smith congratulated the WABC on embracing the 3x3 discipline and organising coaching clinics to spread knowledge and share ideas about this exciting version of the game.  "We pioneered the conduct of WABC clinics at our Oceania Championships in 2011 and I am delighted that as we take our first steps in the FIBA 3X3 world we will have such a strong partner in the WABC.  The educational resources which will result from this clinic will ensure even those coaches who could not be with us in Coffs Harbour can gain the benefits of these two coaches with international competition experience." said Smith.
