Welcoming Ceremony Dinner
Tournament host of the inaugural FIBA Oceania Youth U16 3X3 Basketball Tournament, FIBA Oceania held a traditional welcoming ceremony for the respective teams which consist of 16 National and 23 association teams from aroundAustraliaandNew Zealand. The welcoming dinner was held on Monday evening at Norm Jordan Pavilion Coffs Harbour Show Ground and was organized to formally welcome participating teams and create an opportunity for the diverse cultures represented to socialize and learn of each others cultures. The opening remarks were presented by FIBA Oceania Secretary General Steve Smith who spoke on the importance of friendly rivalry and visions of promoting and organizing the discipline of 3X3 around the globe. In addition Team Samoa sang a traditional welcome song and Canadian basketball import Alex Desroches who representsCoffsHarbourin the State League gave a testimony speech educating the represented youths from around the region on the importance of school and how school plays an important role in fulfilling once dreams in playing basketball professionally. A girl’s representative from Team Samoa blessed the food and team representatives had the opportunity to enjoy and share a wonderful meal with one another.
