Dynasty Diamonds U16 wins U16 Gym Rats Tournament

On Tuesday 3rd January 2012 the Dynasty Diamonds U16 Coed Team won their first tournament which was held at Lincoln Community School. The Gym Rats tournament which was organized by Kingdom Hoops Ghana a wing of Kingdom Hoops International based in Iowa USA was the first competitive game for Dynasty Elite programme teams; Dynasty Diamonds U16 & 19.

The tournament was divided into two age categories U19 and U16 with the U19 tournament held on Monday the 2nd of January 2012. The Diamonds U19 Boys Team met four other teams who had been playing together for over 2years but still worked hard and managed to reach the semi-finals of the tournament.

The U16 Dynasty Diamonds Team were the team of the U16 tournament as they played great one on one and full court press defense and got them more fast break points in each of their games. The U16 Tournament was made up of four teams; Dynasty Diamonds, Galaxy, DC Dynamics, and Kingdom Hoops. Diamonds first game against Galaxy saw them loose by five points after the Diamonds came back in the 2nd Half with a 10-0 run but was not enough to win the game which ended 18 – 22 in favor of the Galaxy Team. Dynasty Diamonds went into their second game against DC Dynamics with a must win mentality. This was evident as Diamonds totally dominated the game from start to finish ending the game with the tournament’s best score of 43 – 20 against DC Dynamics. Diamonds got a ticket into the finals playing Galaxy who had beaten them in the preliminary round. Diamonds made up for their first loss in the hands of Galaxy by controlling the game with quick 6points in less than a minute of play. At the end of the first half the Diamonds led 12 -6. The second half saw Galaxy closing up the lead but Diamonds stood their ground and ended the game 18 – 15 winning the tournament.

The impressive performance of both the U19 & U16 Diamonds with just 5 days of training together as a team has given Dynasty the assurance of the future success of the Elite programme. All players of both the U16 & U19 Diamonds Team are getting ready to go back to school to start their second term and we know that the experience they have gotten from the Dynasty Elite programme this vacation from practice to the tournament will impact both their academic and sports performance at school this term. We wish them all the best “ Diamonds are forever”!
