MENTORS OPERATING AT OPC
Barry Volhand, Hockey Queensland Head Regional Coach, arrived to day to continue the ongoing relationship that he has developed over the past 2 years with PNG. Last week PNG teams stopped in Brisbane for a training camp and Barry organised training sessions and practice matches. Bernadette Pangrazio, Queensland's umpire, mentored PNG umpire Peter Samol during those matches so that he was well prepared and more confident coming into the tournament which was a totally new experience for him.
Bob Claxton, South Australia, who has a wealth of coaching experience has joined up with Vanuatu to provide help. Bob ran a video session for the team aftyer their first game. Some of the umpires who were not on during Vanautu's game videoed the match for Bob and this is another example of everyone helping out!
Kelly Hudson, New Zealand, an International umpire who has been appointed to the 2012 Olympics arrived yesterday and will work with youth umpires as well as mentoring umpires currently appointed to the tournament.
Physios for Australia Country have offered the developing nations help with managing injuries. Michael Nelson, their Chef de Mission, always brings portable ice bins for his teams recovery and Michael generously donates one to a different team each year.
