KAINGAUE GOES TO ANOTHER LEVEL.
Ms. Kaingaue David set two new National Records during the annual Kiribati Inter-Secondary School Championships (KISSAC) on July 5th. - 6th. at the Reuben K. Uatioa National Stadium in Bairiki, Tarawa. In the Final of the Senior Girls 200m. on July 6th. she won in 27.2 seconds. This is the fastest-ever manual time by a Kiribati woman. The previous day, in winning her Heat of the Senior Girls 400m., she broke her own NR with 66.9.
In the two days of the Championships, she showed her versatility by doing a 4.77m. LJ, 1.30m. HJ, 10.10m. TJ, 23.10m. Discus, 8.93m. Shot, in addition to her two NR track performances. It is to be hoped that she trains more on Hurdles so that she can tackle her next Heptathlon with confidence.
KIATAU PUSHED BY NOOA.
In the Open Boys 100m., Nooa Takooa narrowly beat fellow-international Kiatau Cama, both clocking 11.5 in the Final. Then in the 200m. Final, Kiatau reversed the order by winning in a new NR of 22.7, to Nooa's 22.9. (It is of interest that the winner, John, in the Senior Boys 200m. Final, also clocked 22.9.)
To his credit, Kiatau also jumped 5.61m. in Open LJ and 1.70m. in Open HJ.
BENEFITING FROM CAIRNS VISIT ?
Two other athletes, recently returned from competing in the Oceania u-20 Championships in Cairns, were performing well in KISSAC 2012.
Ms. Teina Tewaaki ran in the Open Girls events and achieved 13.8 for 100m., 27.6 for 200m., 70.5 for 400m., 4.80m. for LJ, and 10.22m. for TJ.
Ms. Etita Tio also competed in the Open events and ran 15.3 for 100m., 28.4 for 200m., and jumped 4.85m. in the LJ. (This latter performance is only ONE CENTIMETRE behind the long-standing NR.)
