EXPECTATIONS ARE HIGH !
A sudden burst of enthusiasm and activity in the past few days at the National Stadium has triggered some excitement and iterest. No, there is no splashing of fresh paint, or even installing of a reliable water supply. The activity has been on the track ! To a more limited extent also on the field !
DAWN TOUCH-DOWN !
The Nauru team (30 athletes and 3 officials ?) is due to arrive at Bonriki International Airport on the "Our Airline" flight at 0600 in the morning, i.e. with the sunrise ! Transport will meet them and convey them to their accommodation. In the meantime, we will be finishing the track marking (in waste oil from the Power House) and praying it does not rain too hard and wash the markings away !
FRIDAY EVENING PROGRAMME.
After a short "Opening Ceremony", we have planned to do the distance races (W3000 and M5000) plus a 100m. Hurdles for each, on the track, starting at 5.00 pm. (For the MHurdles we are going to try to fit a 13m. approach, 9m. interval and 6m. run-out, with hurdles at the correct height.) On the field there will be Long Jump and Discus (and NO FOOTBALL !)
SATURDAY MORNING.
There will be a second welcome and up-date. Then the track will start with M/W 400H, followed by 800m., then the rest of the programme, finishing with Relays. On the field, High Jump and Triple Jump will be followed by Javelin and Shot. We hope to finish about 1.30 pm. Such a pity that Marshall Islands could not join us !
