INTENSIVELY USED !
With two Inter-Team Meetings dragging on all of the last two days, little rain and no rolling, the track is very loose and seriously needs compacting and marking properly. However, tomorrow we have the fourth Trials of the year, significant because we have to do our Preliminary entries for the Oceania Championships in Saipan before we have any further Trials.
UP-DATE SATURDAY !
Amazingly we had no clashes with football and were able to start by 0810 !! On the track, it was mostly a question of giving the inexperienced a chance to compete. Nevertheless there were some excellent performances, e.g. from Kaminihi in the W200 and Mwatiota in the M60. Kaminihi was being aimed at the Commonwealth Youth Games (CYG) in Pune, India, in October. However, being born in Tahiti and carrying a NZ passport does not make her eligible for Kiribati !
OTHERS BOUND FOR INDIA.
The two boys who are due to compete in the CYG were competing this morning. David Birati (see earlier story) did his second event first and did 11.92m. in the MTJ, with a short step phase ! Later he used the opportunity to do MHJ on his own, and achieved first-time clearances from 1.60 up to 1.80m. He attempted 1.83 several times and only missed it on timing of his legs. Meanwhile Raobu Tarawa (who managed 36.00m. and 12.04m. in his school's Inter-Team Meeting on Thursday in MDiscus and MShot) was outshone today by Itinikaeti in the MDiscus.
KAITINANO ALSO COMPETED.
Kiribati first Olympian, Kaitinano Mwemweata, helped as an official but also competed in the WTJ, clearing a PB of 9.72m. She is being aimed at the 100m. in Beijing but might also contest the Heptathlon in Saipan in June at the OAA Championships.
THANKS AS USUAL.
For their invaluable help this morning we thank Nei Kaitinano, Eria, Teweti, and Tekooki. It makes the Trials Meeting flow when so many of the Committee contribute their time and expertise.
