PARTICIPATION EXCELLENT !
With 18 in the M100, 9 in the MHJ and MTJ, 14 in the MJav., and 12 in the MShot, one could rightly say that participation was excellent. Because the entry (more than 120) was large, the range of ability was wide, but all competed well at their own level. Some of the older stars shone again, e.g. Tiim in the MDiscus on Day 1. Takakia proved that he is still around by winning the MJavelin. Thankfully those being targeted at big Meetings this year faetured among the winners, e.g. Rabangaki in the M100 and 200 (heading for the OAA GP then the Olympics), Kaitinano in the W60H, 100, 200, HJ, LJ, TJ, Jav.(heading for the Heptathlon in Saipan, then Beijing), David in the MHJ (heading for Pune), and Raobu in the MShot (also heading for Pune).
Where the international athletes decided to compete, the quality was high, e.g. in the MSprints and MRelays. When they chose not to, e.g. in the MJav and the M400, others took their chance !
Another feature was the (re-)emergence of Kimarawa Mourongo (last seen at JSS), and runners like Bukaniman, Taamee, and Kiakia to challenge the established athletes. Very encouraging, with another five weeks to Saipan and seven weeks to the Inter-School. It is to be hoped that the preparations are sensible and phased.
As on the evening of Day 1, we had great support from the Committee and other volunteers, dressed in the uniform sponsored by KNOC. Thus again the programme proceeded smoothly and, without pressuring the athletes, was completed in less than five hours. The weather was kind, although a sprinkle of rain threatened to stop the HJ !
RESULTS.
