FOLLOW-ON from INDIA !
Raobu Tarawa travelled to the Commonwealth Youth Games in Pune, India, in 2008. There he achieved personal bests in both Shot and Discus.
At the KISSAC event last week, held at the National Stadium on Tarawa, he again managed PBs. This time he set two National Records and passed two personal throwing milestones. First, with a PB of over 37m., he twice threw the 2kg. "plate" over 40m., his best being 41.86m. This broke the previous NR by about two metres.
Then next day he pushed the Shot over 13m. to reach a best of 13.20m. This broke the existing NR by 7cm.
REWARD for HARD TRAINING.
While he was thus employed, the Open Girls team from Elaine Bernacchi School (EBS) deserved their reward for the sweat and strain put into their training to run the 4 x 400m. in 4-48.3, breaking the old record by 0.5.
Amazingly five out of six of the age-group 4 x 400m. records were broken at this Meeting, seeming to indicate an advance in the quality of preparation and the size of the sprint squads.
SIXTEEN CHAMPIONSHIP RECORDS GO !
In addition to the seven new Championship records listed above, there were nine more in a variety of events. Pride of place should go to Derin Derrick for his new bests in IB 1500m. and 5000m. However, Ms. Kaingaue David was in a class of her own in the JG 400m. and helped her team to set new CBPs in the two JG Relays.
