NEARLY THE LAST CHANCE !
With Mariuti running 11.4 and 23.5, Rabangaki winning in 23.1 (his fastest manual time), and Tanroo finishing in 11.7 and 23.8, the boys showed how to beat the conditions ! Lilly just held off Rebeta in a fair W100 in 14.4 to 14.5. Because of the frequency of the flooding of parts of the track (notably the first and last 30m. of the normal 200m., up to six lanes wide !), we are getting used to using the back straight for the 100m., and halving the 400m. staggers to also run the 200m. on the first half of the track.
To give them a serious competition, we held a M400m. Hurdles which Beteru won in 1-04.5. Approximate spacing, track flooding, plus some carelessness of technique cost him a faster time. Mind you, he then spent more than an hour later in the morning working on his technique !
The Mens' Shot featured Takakia (3 putts over 12.15m.) with a best of 12.34m., beating Rabangaki (working on his throws for the Octathlon) with 11.59m. We also had male and female Youths competing.
The High Jumpers had to contend with warming-up footballers on the same space (a Ministry-organised clash !) but also stayed after their (moderate) competition to do some much-needed work on approach runs and bar-clearance.
Because of the Football clash, we had to cancel the Long Jump - more than a pity !
Thanks to Rianimarewe, Tierata, Karakoa and Tekooki for coping with my cold / flu !
