JUST OUTSIDE HER BEST.
Seeming to withstand the pressures well, and supported as far as the Call Room 1. by coach Albert and athlete Nooa (see images) , Tioiti kept calm, started OK, and ran a time just outside her PB in coming 8th. of the 8 runners. She finished in 14.38, which equates to 14.14 manual. Her manual PB is 14.1.
This placed her as the slowest of the W100m. runners on the overall ranking list.
DOES THAT MATTER ?
There are those who contend that we should not be sending such athletes to compete at this level. But that is not seeing it from the athlete's point-of-view. Joyce was very pleased to get the chance to compete in such company,
as were many other "lesser" athletes, some of whom set National Records.
TYPICAL of the SPIRIT.
This attitude is typified by most I-Kiribati athletes who travel overseas. Whether they are leading or at the back of the field, they work hard to achieve their best performances. In so doing, on many occasions they set National or National Junior Records. (A glance at our National Records will show how many have been set overseas.)
