X Wounds unscathed during U22 basketball battle

X WOUNDS thumped RYPD 41-5 to kick start its campaign in the 2009 National Under-22 Basketball Cham-pionships in Suva, last night.

The side had too much power for the RYPD side, a development team from Raiwaqa.

In the second game, Cougars won by default over Shaq.

The tournament has been organised to assist Basket-ball Fiji's preparations for the national U20 men's and women's team to the 2010 FIBA Oceania Youth Tour-nament in New Caledonia.

The tournament will be in line with Basketball Fiji's strategic plans to be competitive with Oceania basketball powerhouses Australia and New Zealand.

A meeting was conducted between Basketball Fiji's development officers and the national U20 men's and women's squad members at the FASANOC Office in Suva.

The meeting outlined and discussed the goals and objectives of the national development program.

The program is to educate players on what defines an elite basketball player.

The key points stressed during the meeting were the importance of communication, discipline, player's attendance, the importance of looking after your body, personal training and player's attitude.

Furthermore in the players agreement, it was made compulsory for each member of the national youth development program to participate in the upc-oming National U22 Basketball Champion-ships and any upcoming competitions org-anised either by Bas-ketball Fiji or the affiliated associations.
