B'ballers focus on first nationals

MOST of Fiji's elite basketball teams are focused on the new year's first major basketball tournament _ the National Club
Championships.

The tournament, which was called off last month shortly after it began because of Lautoka's sudden wet weather,

will now be held in Suva this month. Raiwaqa Basketball official Saula Koroi said all Raiwaqa teams would start training because they wanted to be in top form when the tournament is held.

Six Raiwaqa clubs represented the Association to the tournament. "The new tournament will be held in Suva because we have a lot of

covered basketball venues around the Capital City," said Koroi.

The Club Championship was scheduled as the last Fiji Basketball Association-organised competition for 2009.  All the top clubs from Suva and Lautoka had registered to compete in the tournament. Koroi said all the Suva teams, including the Easter Tournament champion, Shaq, took the trip down to Lautoka last month.

"I'm pretty sure that all the teams from Suva and Raiwaqa that went to Lautoka will be there when the tournament resumes this month," Koroi
said.
