Taito leads young guns to Golden victory

NATIONAL women's U20 basketball rep Grace Taito played an instrumental role to guide her NDP White to a 27-17 victory over Golden Bati in Raiwaqa yesterday. The national U20 side beat Knights 25-13 in the semi-final to book a spot women's final of the Boston Basketball tournament. The side faces a re-match with Golden Bati in the final. Taito and Vika Fifita sparked NDP White's attack. Fiji women's U20 basketball assistant coach Peni Ratumaiyale was impressed with the performance of his players at the tournament in Suva yesterday. "They've really improved a lot and I believe with few more months to prepare, I'm optimistic of a good outing in October," he said. "The tournament was a great way to test the girls' capabilities and I'm happy they give their best in all games." Ratumaiyale said Fiji had a good chance of doing well at the Oceania U20 Youth Championship. "All the girls played well. Grace was at her best and I think they all gave everything to come up with this result in the end." He said they wanted to test their best combination and the girls' fitness before the Oceania games within the next few months. Tournament official Eroni Cinavilakeba said the national U20 team played a grand game in build up to the Oceania games. In another women's semi-final, Golden Bati beat Wed C 24-15.
