Saints, Wed C reign

Saints dethroned Easter basketball champions Shaq Attaq to be crowned the new champions of the Post Fiji Easter Basketball championship. Led by Fiji captain Leonard Whippy and national U20s Jese Sikivou, Wayann Whippy and Alipate Tuilevuka proved too good for Shaq Attaq in the semifinal. Saints beat Lautoka Vikings 65-35 to take the title. Basketball Fiji development officer Laisiasa Puamau said fatigue had kicked in on the Lautoka side in the final. “It was more like the battle of the fittest and this saw the fittest teams winning both the men’s and the women’s competition.” “Apart from Shaq not having their expertise in coaching because their coach is away on his son’s wedding, they were not as fit as the Saints team.” “This goes to show that no team can be on top of the mountain for so long.” Meanwhile, in the women’s competition Wed C beat Vikings 42-18 in the semifinal. In another semifinal, Golden Bati defeated Chosen by 35-30 to claim the second spot in the final. And it was a rematch of the National championship as predicted but Wed C again proved their dominance winning the final with a 42-35 scoreline over Golden Bati.
