Congratulate David and Taufa Whippy

National Basketball representive David Whippy who is also the son of National Womens head coach, Michael Whippy, made the basket of his life when he married Taufa Ratu on Saturday 3rd April, 2010 at the LDS Temple at Tamavua, Suva. National player David Whippy took time off from the National Easter basketball Championships to marry his sweetheart and fiancée Taufa Ratu on Saturday  3rd April in Suva. David is the eldest and son of National Women’s coach Michael Whippy and Basketball Fiji’s secretary Caroline Whippy. He is the elder brother to Fiji national women's players Mikaelar Whippy (who is based in New York) and Letava Whippy who was  MVP at the New Zealand Secondary School National Championships in 2009, 2008 & 2007 .  Taufa his wife is a law student at the University of the South Pacific and also plays basketball for one of the local clubs.

This special occasion also marked the first time in 20 years that Coach Whippy and his family were absent from  the involvement at the Easter championships.  It took only an important occasion like this to keep him and his family away which was unfortunate as David’s  club side Shaq Attaq who were the Easter  champions of  2009 had to do without his services and that of their coach Michael Whippy and who bowed out in the semi-finals.The wedding was attended by close to 350 basketball friends, relatives  and family members from Fiji and abroad from both sides of the family. David and his wife will leave Fiji in June this year where he will take up a scholarship at Brigham Young University in Laie, Hawaii and hopefully continue to play ball. Basketball Fiji wished the new couple all the best in their future endeaours!!
