More schools for basketball

More than 700 players are expected to participate in the Tuckers Fiji Secondary Schools Basketball competition next month. The competition will be held on August 26-29 at the Vodafone Arena, Suva.
Fiji Basketball development officer Laisiasa Puamau confirmed yesterday that 31 new schools would be joining  the competition this year.
“We have a total of 64 teams with 31 new schools to compete in the Fiji Secondary Schools basketball competition,”Puamau said. “For the schools in the Central Division,we have DAV Girls, Jai Narayan College, Tailevu North College, Nasinu Secondary and Ratu Sukuna Memorial.“At the moment we are impressed with the competition and interests shown by the schools during the weekly competition and the numbers are increasing every week which was a good sign for us.
“Even some of the new schools are providing a good challenge to the experienced schools and we should expect some upsets come the national tournaments.”
Puamau also confirmed yesterday that the Ratu Kadavulevu U19 match with Nasinu Secondary School has been postponed to next week.
In the U19 girls newcomers Nasinu defeated Cathedral 14-12 yesterday. “We are now planning to have the Tailevu schools finals in RKS .” The Central schools basketball finals will be held in the third week of next month with dates to be confirmed.
