Basketball Fiji launches Hoops for Health

A first of its kind in the world, Basketball Fiji today launched its Hoops for Health program. Basketball Fiji in partnership with the Australian Sports Commission and FIBA Oceania are running a “Hoops for Health” program to combat the threat of NCDs in the Pacific. Basketball Fiji’s Valerie Nainima says they are proud to be part of the pilot program. “Hoops for Health is a program which is funded by the Australian government in association with Basketball Fiji in promoting healthy lifestyle through sports. We have developed 15 youth coaches to go through schools in Suva and the West, to promote that message and this is the first time in the world that is happening and Fiji is the pilot program.” The selected coaches will work with primary and secondary school students.
