Slow start to Raiwaqa B'ball

THE Raiwaqa Basketball Players Association have experienced a slow start to their season after two teams failed to turn up to compete for the knockout rounds on Saturday. Association President Reuben Colata said what transpired was expected as they had just begun with the season and hoped attendance would pick up as the tournament continues.

Iconic Reds and the USP team continue their fine form from last season as both teams registered a win in the women and men's divisions respectively.

"For the teams that couldn't make it we will continue competition next week. The first round of knockouts will be completed on Wednesday, with the second round to commence on Thursday and Saturday," he said. He added that the Basketball All Stars would be fielding a team next week to be part of competition next week.

The Basketball All Stars are a selected group of players in the U15, 17 and 19 grades currently undertaking a two-week camp organised by the Basketball Fiji Federation.

The parent body have recruited the players on the basis of nurturing them to become viable national representatives. Colata added that they were still yet to find a sponsor for the tournament.
