THE OYT STARTS TO GET INTO FULL SWING

Josefa has a slight sprain to his right ankle but with immediate treatment it should be OK for him to play in the first game.  Jese suffered a slight knock to the head but will also be OK.

Saturday also brought the official welcoming dinner at the up market Outrigger Hotel and it was a very big basketball family that gathered there for some speeches and gifts.  FIBA President, Mr Bob Elphinston was in attendance, as was FIBA Oceania Secretary General Steve Smith,  FIBA Oceania Special Projects Manager, Judy Smith and FIBA Oceania Development Manager, Regan Kama.

Our two players from the National Women’s Team to Spain, Ofa Moce and Brittany Hazelman were asked to speak to the whole assembly about their experiences in Spain.  Basketball Fiji received some kudos about their participation in this Pre-Olympic Qualifying event.

Tomorrow, Sunday, is the start of players clinics and in the afternoon the tournament begins for real.  The Women’s Team is drawn to play the very strong Australian team (tall and athletic) and our men come against another tall team in Tahiti.

You may keep up to date with the scores as the game is being played by going to www.fibaoceania.com   and then on the left find the button for competitions and follow the prompts.
