Nadi Juniors moves to Lautoka

Lautoka Basketball Association resumes league competition this weekend at the multipurpose courts after the festive break.

LBA secretary Simi Cagilaba said they had an impressive season last year with one of their club winning the National Eastern Championship in Suva and are looking forward to another good outing in 2009.

Top gun Muanivatu Vikings were crowned the national champions during the Easter Championship last year and Cagilaba said they expected the league to be tougher this week.

He said they wanted to get more teams registered within the association this season and had secured a team from Nadi (Nadi Juniors) and another from Ba which would be confirmed later.

“Last year was a great for us. Our very own Muanivatu Vikings were crowned the national champions and we wanted to improve from where we were this season,” Cagilaba said.

“We’re looking at registering more teams. Currently we have four ladies and sevens men’s team in the league. Nadi Junior had confirmed their registration this year while another team from Ba is yet to be finalized,” he said. Meanwhile, Cagilaba said they would be looking at improving their playing facilities by building an indoor gym to cater them this season.

“This would be an area which we would be looking at this season and our aim is to build a proper gym for our weekly games,” he said. “Suva had the facilities but we’ll consider this first to further develop the interest of players in Lautoka. This is all we lacking and it’s our primary concern to build a proper gym rather than playing outside every weekend.”
