Clubs gear for Easter

THE Raiwaqa Basketball Association is planning to organise a tournament next month to bolster the performance of clubs for the Easter tournament.

RBA committee member Etuate Waqairawai said the two-day tournament would act as a shadow tournament to the much-anticipated battle in April.

"We haven't planned the dates yet but we will surely hold a tournament in March," he said.

"This tournament will prepare the teams for the Easter tournament."

The RBA also plans to change the format of its weekly league games by next season.

"We want to make the second season of our league like a challenge competition," Waqairawai said.

"Teams who win in the first rounds will be challenged by other teams."

Veterans laced with the current Fiji reps continued its dominance on the Ed's court in Raiwaqa.

"Barbarians, Warriors and Spowart are also top contenders to finish at top of the table," Waqairawai said.

"The turn-out during the league games is overwhelming, the competition is getting tougher as we reach the final rounds."

With the intense competition hitting the court every Saturdays, Waqairawai said there was still places for more clubs to join the association.

"We have 16 clubs in our weekly league but we are looking for more teams to boost our competition.

"We are also asking women to form teams and join our competition."

The league games are expected to finish before the Easter tournament.
