Bankstown banks win

BANKSTOWN started their season on a high note with an impressive 50-26 win over Cougars in the Lautoka Basketball Association league competition yesterday.

The side, made up mostly of netballers, played superbly in their first match.

Saula Nabalarua and Rusiate Naqiri top scored for Bankstown.

Nabalarua scored 20 points while Naqiri claimed 15 points.

In another match, Vikings thrashed Saints 80-26. Jale Vunisa, Simi Cagilaba, Donald Chang and Rainima Delai featured for Vikings.

Lautoka basketball executive Ilisipeci Korovou said it was good to see some old hands get back into the game.

She said it was bright start to their season.

"There is keen interest in the sport," Korovou said.

"We have some players travelling all the way from Nadi for the games. Then we were joined by former Lautoka reps John Kumkee and Simi Sea. It's good to have the experienced cplayers oming back to lift the profile of the sport."

Lautoka will host the National Club Championship at the Sugar City multi purpose courts on December 12.

A provincial competition will be organised a week before to serve as a warm-up to the national event.

Korovou said invitations for the provincial tournament would be sent out to clubs from Sigatoka through to Rakiraki.
