Fruitful season for b'ball

FIJI basketball development officer Laisiasa Puamau believes 2009 was another successful year for basketball in the country.

Puamau said most of their objectives were achieved at the end of the day. "This year it has been a good year all around. The competitions went well throughout the season in different categories."

Puamau said the development strategies which started from primary school level were really motivating.

"We had a lot of highlights this year. The primary school development went well with their holiday clinic and also the secondary school competition was the biggest event for the year," he said.

The primary school competition was joined with the Fiji Paralympics.

Puamau said this enables disabled athletes to compete against the main stream schools. "I think everything was a success. Our primary school competition was part of Fiji Paralympics and everything went quite well. Next year we'll try to lift the standard to another level."

Puamau said the club championship rounded off the season on a high note.

He thanked their major sponsors Post Fiji for sponsoring their major events. Puamau returned with the national men's team from Hawaii last month.
