Britney Hazelman attends BYU

2011 National Women's Basketball representative Britney Hazleman has departed Fiji following the Pacific Games to attend Brigham Young University (BYU) Division 2 College in the US on a partial basketball scholarship. 22 years old Britney who was captain of the 2008 National U20 Women's Team that won bronze in the FIBA Oceania Youth U20 Tournament in Guam said that attending BYU was an ideal opportunity for her to attain an education and further develop her basketball skills. She hopes to gain a better knowledge of the game from her experience gained training and playing under the BYU basketball women's team and hopes that she will be able to contribute to Basketball Fiji in future international events. Britney hopes to attain a double major degree in Political Science and Economics after completing her 3 years term with BYU in Hawaii.

The former University of the South Pacific (USP) student acknowledged her sponsor Sigatoka River Safari for their financial assistance towards her Pacific Games preparations. Britney advice to young aspiring basketball players was to never give up on their dreams and stressed the importance of hard work.

Playing Background

2005- represented Fiji in the under 18 Pan Pacific games in Melbourne
2006- selected to be part of the training squad for the Fiji Women’s team to Samoa and won gold
2007-represented Fiji as a development player to the SPG in Samoa
       -played in Hawaii in the Asia-Pacific Tournament 
       -represented Fiji in the Pre-Olympic play-offs in Dunedin, New   Zealand
2008- represented Fiji as a development player in Madrid, Spain in the pre-Olympics games
        -co-captained the under 20 team to Guam and won bronze.
2009- Selected to be part of the all-star team to play in Townsville, Australia.
2011- Selected to be represent Fiji in the SPG in New Caledonia
