THE Police men's and women's basketball teams reigned victorious at the Sukuna Bowl competition yesterday.

The Mens side defeated Army by 46-35 while their Womens team thrashed Army 42-11.

Winning Mens captain Jack Ting said their participation in the Raiwaqa Basketball league was the reason for the win yesterday. "It was a tough match but we had experience in our side since we take part in the Raiwaqa Basketball league competition," Ting said.

"The regular competition was the build-up for this and it is one of the reasons for our win today (yesterday)," he said.

Womens captain Dale Wise echoed similar sentiments.

"Our Commissioner, Brigadier Ioane Naivalurua, is the president of the basketball Fiji and he encouraged us to take part in the Raiwaqa league competition and business house competitions," she said.

"Therefore this win is a result of the competition we face in the business house and Raiwaqa league."

She said regular competition helped keep the disciplinary fit and ready for action.

"I think this initiative is very good as it promotes health and fitness and it also brings us closer to the communities we are policing." Both captains said as police officers it is their job to promote good habits that could build a community.

"Surely we will be back next year to defend their titles," they said.
