Taito up to the task

Grace Taito has a huge task ahead.Leading the national U19 women’s basketball side to the Oceania Championship in Melbourne later this month never comes easy for the Rotuman lass and she takes it as a challenge. Taito also believes her experiences in playing for the national side for the last four years will help to build a good combination with other girls for the tournament set for November 25-December 2.
While basketball has been a family sport, she is also hoping to make a comeback in the international arena after missing out on the Oceania Youth Championship in 2010 due to injury. “I wasn’t expecting to be named the captain for the tour,” Grace said. “The role won’t be an easy one but I am ready to take up the challenge of working with these girls so we can achieve the best in Australia. “This will be the first time for most of us to play together as a team as we have been playing against each other for our respective clubs.
“During the past weeks we have been training and working on our team bonding.”
The University of the South Pacific first year student has been playing in the national side since she was 14 years old. “Training has been going on well for the past few weeks and we are all set with our preparations.
“We hope to do our best in Melbourne in this upcoming tournament. The FIBA Pacific Youth U19 Basketball Championship will be held in Melbourne, Australia.
