Defending champions of the Fiji Easter Basketball Club Championship, Saints started their campaign on a high thrashing Papua New Guinea club champions Moni Plus Tamarawas 59-30 last night.

Led by national basketball captain Leonard Whippy and his brothers Marcus and Wayman together with Fiji reps Jese and Tui Sikivou, the side looked sharp as they led from the first quarter.

Leonard Whippy said they really need to work more on their defense but overall they played well.

Meanwhile, women’s division favorites Sparks also started their campaign well thumping Chances 41-nil.

Sparks laced with experience players like Lynn Koyamainavure national rep Breanna Kamsoo, Ada Dansey, Maria Tora, and former national rep Merelaini Waqairawai were just too strong and fast for their opponents as they crushed them.

Captain Lynn Koyamainavure said even though they won with a huge margin they still need to work on a lot of areas.

Looking at the games played last night in the women’s division USP Chosen beat Mystics 37-15, Wesley Stripes lost 32-10 to Dynamic Reds while Golden Bati edged out Saints 30-27.

In the men’s draw, Idaman beat Boston Reds 30-27, Chances won over Mighty Mights 47-40 while MacPacers beat Outcydaz 38-24.

Games that will be played tonight, in the women’s, Sparks meet Saints at 6pm, Dynamic Reds face Mystics at 7pm in court 1 while in court 2, Sparks take on Saints at 6pm and Golden Bati face Chances at 7pm.

In the men’s division, Mighty Mights meet Warriors at 6pm, Boston White takes on New Era at 8pm and Moni Plus Tamaraws face Outcydaz at 9pm in court 1 while in court 2 MacPacers face Saints at 8pm and Veterans meet Boston Red at 9pm.
